Thank you Shannon...No, I altered it by adding pleated shoulder straps that I gathered to a v in the back so it would be more modest. It looks like a bow because I made pointed tails of the straps and gathered them with a very carefully 'made' bow. I also sewed a sturdy panel of black satin into the back to replace the criss-cross spaghetti straps. It just sort of 'came together' as I worked with it. It was really fun to do and we thought the dress looked much nicer than before. We bought it at a resale shop for $30.00!! She did her hair 'japanese style'. We took a pair of huge lacy gold butterfly earrings (from WalMart) off their hooks and attached them to bobby pins too and put them in her hair. She was so excited about going to a dance with daddy.
